چکیده

Nitriding has long been used to engineer the surfaces of engineering steels improve their surface and subsurface properties. The role compound layer (γ′-Fe4N and/or ε-Fe2-3N) in improving tribological corrosion-resistant properties nitrided established. However, there have very few studies on response tribocorrosion corrosive environments. In this work, behavior a 5 μm thick γ′-Fe4N nitride produced mild steel (MS) by plasma nitriding studied NaCl-containing solution under various electrochemical conditions. results show that at cathodic potential −700 mV (saturated calomel electrode, SCE), where mechanical wear is predominant, total material removal (TMR) from 37% smaller than untreated MS, open circuit potential, TMR 34% while an anodic −200 (SCE), can reduce 87%. beneficial effect derived its high hardness good corrosion resistance test ability resist both wear–corrosion synergism.

Some Consideration on Double Layer Structure in Plasma Assisted Nitriding of Austenitic Stainless Steel

Low temperature plasma assisted nit riding treatments of 316 stainless steel produce a complex layer constituted by tow different metastable f.c.c. solid solution denoted ( γ N1 and γ N2 ). About the formation of these double layers, different hypothesis was proposed in the literature. For verifying these hypotheses, the effects of differentes conditions such as nit riding temperature, cleaning...

SYNERGISTIC INFLUENCE OF NITRITE ON INHIBITION OF MILD STEEL CORROSION IN CHLORIDE CONTAMINATED ALKALINE SOLUTION

Corrosion behavior of mild steel in chloride contaminated alkaline solution has been studied for the period up to 100days. Saturated Calcium hydroxide solution was used as alkaline solution and 0.5M NaCl solution was used to accelerate mild steel corrosion. The Charge transfer resistance Rct, Current density Icorr and inhibition efficiency values were obtained from tafel polarization and electr...

Duplex Surface Treatment of AISI 1045 Steel via Plasma Nitriding of Titanized Layer

In this Study, surface of medium carbon steel (AISI 1045) was modified by titanizing followed by plasma nitriding. Titanizing was performed using pack cementation method, in a pack mixture of ferrotitanium, ammonium chloride and alumina, at 1223 K for 45 and 180 min.  Plasma-nitriding was conducted at two temperatures of 803 and 823 K for 5 h, in a gas mixture of 75%N2+25%H2. The samples were c...

Characterization of Oxide Film Formed on Ck45 Steel by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Method

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is the new, environmentally and cost-effective method for coating the metals. This method vastly has been studied for coating Aluminum, Titanium and Magnesium and their alloys and recently for steel. In present study, Ck45 steel samples were coated by PEO method in order to improve corrosion resistance. During this process specimens were immerged in carbonate...
